PHOTOGRAPHER: Studio Periphery

A home for a couple, their dog, and a live-in helper, Dwelling of Hues is a spatial and chromatic journey, shaped through volume, colour, and artful curation.

At the heart of the brief was the desire for functionality: a larger kitchen, ample storage, and a work loft. But beyond utility, the clients brought with them a rich palette of personal tastes, emotional affinities with colour, and a growing collection of artworks. This formed the foundation for a home conceived as a living gallery, immersive, expressive, and deeply personal.

Rather than relying on walls or partitions, colour becomes the primary tool for spatial definition. Each zone unfolds like a room in an exhibition, distinct yet connected. This chromatic zoning allows movement through the house to feel like a curated experience, with changing tones evoking shifts in atmosphere and activity.

The double-volume loft space is accessed by a custom stair in a soft, dusky pink, a hue carefully matched to a painting that now adorns the adjacent stair wall. At the stair’s foot, a sculptural piece is spotlighted on a green mosaic base, with a corresponding wall lamp designed specifically to highlight the artwork, blurring the line between lighting and display.

In the kitchen, the client’s love for dark moody green set the tone. Bronze detailing in the cabinetry offers a quiet gleam, a complementary warmth that tempers the cool depth of green. The bedroom takes on a different emotional register, a cocooning retreat in dark blue, designed as a darker, quieter counterpoint to the rest of the home.

Even transitional spaces were not overlooked. The corridor leading to the private zones becomes a moment of playful futurism, lit by an artificial skylight that lends a sci-fi glow to the passage. At the corridor’s end, a pair of black figurine sculptures forms a formal conclusion, a silent sentinel anchoring the visual line.

Throughout the home, sculptures and paintings are not merely displayed, but staged, with sightlines and backdrops considered with precision. Dwelling of Hues is as much an inhabitable artwork as it is a home, orchestrated to reflect its owners’ sensibilities with joy, drama, and poetry.
